ICYMI: G22, composed of AJ, Alfea, Bianca, and Jaz, is our newest muse for the Misfits Issue of Parcinq Magazine. Just debuted and already coming out with a bang, this rookie girl group is serving up a new caliber of talent—in the most badass way possible with their debut single, BANG. A song that is full of charm, edge, and stage presence. And their follow-up track, Babalik, showing a more classy, sultry side to before.
But much more than their immense potential, they’re a group of forward-thinkers who see beyond their societal confines. And more than their charisma, we see strong women capable of much, much more.
Jaz talks about this message best: “The badass type represents the female alphas from within. The character of not representing violence or aggression but the confidence and empowerment you feel or that you’re supposed to feel inside that we wanna rub off onto our listeners. ‘Di lang female, everyone’s an alpha. And we wanna showcase that in the way we carry ourselves and our music, and so that’s the story behind it.”
With an affirmation like that, you’d think they’ve been at it for a while. But it just goes to show how articulate and iron-willed G22 really is. In fact, as rookies, they’re only at the beginning of their saga, still figuring out their next steps to spread their message of empowerment. And they never forget to thank the ones before them for paving the way.
“Everyday is a learning experience for us and as rookies, sobrang dami naming natutunan, not only from mga kasabay naming nag-debut but also sa seniors namin. And as time goes by, we’ve learned to love BANG even more kasi we humbled ourselves na natatandaan namin kung saan kami nanggaling and kung ano yung kanta na nag-define sa G22,” says leader AJ.

With all the P-Pop groups today, we see a variety of concepts, messages, and genres. It’s a growing industry of talent that, to no one’s surprise, has led to joint concerts and conventions to bring them all together in one place. As G22 prepares for Tugatog, the all-around group is excited to showcase what they got. AJ teases, “I think makikita nila yung badass side and also another side of G22. Also, a possible collaboration.” Fingers crossed, we see collaborations across the board for female girl groups.

Alfea talks performing with other P-Pop groups, “It is a very humbling experience na makasama sa group na P-Pop, and makita yung seniors namin na magagaling na parang nagiging inspiration sila for us rookies na mas galingan pa and ipakita yung galing ng mga Pilipino.” Jaz also shares the same praise for other groups, “Sobrang bilib po ako sa mga groups ng P-Pop industry. P-Pop, in general. It’s growing and it’s on the rise. And I’m just so honored–we are so honored to be a part of that.”

[“I really believe in so many groups in the P-Pop industry. P-Pop, in general. It’s growing and it’s on the rise. And I’m just so honored–we are so honored to be a part of that.”]
Still slowly making their way, we have yet to know more about these rookies. So, in the meantime, let’s cheer them on as they wage battles and break boundaries in the P-Pop scene. As told by Bianca, “Gusto namin maging kasama sila [our fans] sa journey namin. Not just sa aming ‘badass side,’ yung makasama din nila yung ibang side ng G22.”
[“We want to show them our journey. Not just our ‘badass side,’ but all the other sides of G22.”]
