Gab Lagman Keeps It Real on Reel, Life, and Chasing Dreams

Many of you may have heard the phrase ‘reel to real’ used when an actor's fictional persona becomes a little too real in life. But for Gabriel Paolo ‘Gab’ Lagman, it’s the other way around; he brings himself to 'Chasing in the Wild' as Sevi Camero—and it's easy to see why his portrayal of Sevi feels so natural.

Gwy Saludes' Chasing in the Wild, the third installment of the popular Twitter-serialized University Series, takes center stage this year as it makes its small screen debut. With the show's ongoing success, Gab considers this his biggest break yet.

For those unfamiliar with the novel, or even Gab's character, he describes Sevi as a very family-oriented guy—selfless and willing to do anything for his family, friends, and loved ones. He's the type of friend you can always rely on, and he expresses his affection through jokes and playful banter. Above all, a hard-working man who is passionate about the things he loves: engineering and basketball. 

“Our similarities mostly come down to our love for family, friends, and joking around, but especially basketball,” shares Gab. This shared personality has allowed Gab to embody Sevi so effortlessly, which resonates deeply with the audience.

Screen adaptations of novels can be hit or miss. However, Chasing in the Wild defies this trend, becoming a hit with audiences due to its excellent adaptation. A beloved work of art owes its value not only to its narrative but also to its execution. While Chasing in the Wild boasts a compelling plot, it is the performances of Gab and his fellow actors that truly make it a must-see series, catapulting Gab to newfound fame. But before his breakthrough as Sevi, the Las Vegas-raised Kapampangan had been honing his craft since 2017, appearing in several minor roles before landing parts in prominent films such as Wild Flower, La Luna Sangre, and Sid and Aya: Not a Love Story.

After his minor acting stints, Gab transitioned to more exclusive roles to test his acting range. These projects proved fruitful, albeit not everyone's cup of tea. They led him to discover a genre where he feels most comfortable and can further develop his skills.

“There were times in the past when I had to challenge myself to be versatile and exploratory in the roles I took, pushing my limits and discovering my potential. Now, I find myself leaning more toward wholesome projects and genres that help hone my talents in every aspect of my craft,” reveals Gab.

In this new chapter of his career, Gab has steadily built his success through consistent performances, particularly in previous installments of the University Series. Much like Sevi, who is dedicated to his passions, Gab's dedication to his artistry has led him to his first lead role.

“It's been such an honor to be part of the University Series. I'm truly grateful to Viva and Gwy for trusting me with the role of Sevi. Now, being the lead in Chasing in the Wild still feels surreal. I remember manifesting this opportunity a few years ago, and I couldn't ask for anything more," professes Gab.

Being the lead keeps Gab busy these days, juggling his acting and athletic pursuits. However, he remains committed to making the most of every opportunity—actively connecting with and inspiring fans whenever he can. For him, the Dumaguete festival show and the HyGab get-together stand out as unforgettable moments.

“I feel so honored and blessed to meet our supporters at mall shows and events. Hearing their stories and connecting with them is such a humbling experience. Knowing I’ve made even a small impact on someone’s life inspires me to keep working harder—it’s the most rewarding part of what I do.”

Off-screen, Gab is not one to slack off as he enjoys staying active through various activities, including basketball, gym workouts, running, boxing, and yoga. He especially loves traveling and exploring the world, which he finds both inspiring and grounding. He also admits to being an adrenaline junkie, constantly seeking the next thrill—whether it's a new opportunity for self-improvement or a chance to refine his skills.

Even with a stable career at hand, Gab humbly maintains that he has yet to fully find his footing in the industry. Thus, his focus remains on constant self-improvement—mentally, physically, and spiritually—and he refuses to become complacent in the limelight.

This mentality speaks volumes about Gab as an artist, signaling a bright career ahead. Gab is on his way up, and Chasing in the Wild is just the beginning. He's living proof that manifestation, coupled with hard work, dedication, and divine grace, brings dreams to life.

Gab didn't just manifest it; he chased his dreams and made it happen, and that's what makes his success both inspiring and real.
