Known for his diverse experience as a hairstylist and chic sense of style, Jaime Sy’s understated aesthetic has made him a favorite among celebrities. As the master behind P-pop group #BGYO’s breathtaking looks, Jaime has truly perfected his craft on nailing the lit-from-within looks of his muses like no other.
As one of the main collaborators to The Music Issue of PARCINQ last July, we caught up with Jaime Sy to get the scoop on his renowned career so far (and, of course, to ask what everyone's been dying to know: The secret to his youthful, glowing skin!) Below, read our casual conversation with Jaime on an early morning of September.
It's great to have you back at the studio, Jaime! As our warm-up questions, why don't we talk about your favorites first!
Favorite Song or Playlist?
Jaime: My current favorite artists from my playlist are BGYO, Stray Kids, SHINee, NCT U/Dream, Up Dharma Down, Zack Tabudlo, GOT7, and BTS.
Favorite celebrity or artist to work with?
Jaime: Of course, my favorite celebrity/artist to work with is the best boys, BGYO! I'm so proud of them, very kind, polite on and off the cam, and super fun to work with. Very contagious yung energy nila kaya hindi ako napapagod ka-work sila.
Favorite workout routine?
Jaime: HIIT (High-Intensity Interval Training) or I watch allblanc channel on YouTube. It's so convenient kasi, you can do it anywhere and anytime, perfect during a lockdown. And masarap din may kasabay magwork out.
Favorite Hair Product?
Jaime: I use L'Oréal Elvive thickening shampoo, and for styling naman, Gatsby pomade urban dry.
Favorite Lip Product?
Jaime: Ginger Sugar lip balm stick and Pawpaw Lucas lip balm.
Favorite Brow Product?
Jaime: Any brow soap will do.

Boxers or Briefs?
Jaime: Briefs always
Hiking or Netflix and Chill?
Jaime: Netflix and chill
Do you sleep with or without your clothes on?
Jaime: Sleeping in undies.
Thanks! Interesting answers! (laughs) Moving on to the final round of our "Talk Show" or whatever this is — let's talk about random stuff, Jaime! How many years have you been in the fashion industry?
Jaime: OMG! I just realized I'm working in the industry for 10 years already. (laughs)
Wow. Cheers to that! My next question is so random: What do you like to sing in the shower?
Jaime: Nope, I only have the audacity to sing when I’m drunk. Dun lang ako nagkakaroon ng confidence.
What's the craziest hair color or hairstyle have you ever got?
Jaime: I colored my hair platinum blonde and bright red before just to try it for a couple of days, then colored it again in black hindi talaga ako sanay ng may color yung hair ko.
I'm surprised to hear that! But, we can all agree that we all have this experimental phase in our lives, right? And what about your skincare routine? Would you mind sharing it?
Jaime: I'm not really fussy when it comes to my skin routine. I use any product that is available. I like to switch or try different brands. Good thing my skin is not maarte or sensitive. But I can't sleep without washing my face and putting on moisturizer before going to bed. And I also use sunscreen every time I go outside. I can't live without sunscreen.
Well, I'm dying to know, what's your secret for youthful-looking skin?
Jaime: More puyat! Co’z puyat while binge watching is life! HAHAHA. My body clock is really messed up coz I always sleep around 4 or 5 in the morning. I badly need to fix my body clock. But all kidding aside, my rule of thumb is to avoid stress at all costs. Every problem has a solution pero if there's no solution to your problem then don't waste your time and energy worrying about it. You just have to learn to live with it, and the most important thing is to avoid toxic relationships or people. Just do yourself a favor and cut them off. Life is too short to be unhappy and miserable; just surround yourself with love and positivity.
