Angela Ken has been sharing her artistry for four years, but there's always more to discover about this talented 22-year-old. In this issue, we're revealing a fresh and bold Angela—one that’s more confident, truly herself, and taking charge of her creative journey.

Her hit song "Ako Naman Muna," which went TikTok-viral in 2021, became a personal mantra. Angela's recent rebranding is about embracing her authentic voice and style, a decision that brings her genuine joy. “While it wasn't a complete overhaul, I decided to be more authentic and creative in my music and style, and I am truly happy that I made that decision,” affirms Angela.

Music has always been a part of Angela's life. From writing her first song at 12 to releasing her own compositions during the pandemic, especially "Ako Naman Muna," she's found immense reward in sharing her heart through music. Angela considers the release of her debut song and her creative rebranding to be the most rewarding experiences in her career thus far.

Even from her very first song, a worship piece, Angela aimed to offer comfort and hope. Her music, born from vulnerability, creates a safe haven for listeners. “The more real you are,” she shares, “the better you can embrace life's pains. I want my songs to be a safe space, a shoulder to cry on, a friend.”

Angela’s sentimental approach is inspired by the women who guided her musical journey. In this #PARCINQFresh issue, we’ll explore that influence, her views on being a woman in the industry, and her goals moving forward.

Q. Were there any female artists or songwriters who inspired you growing up, and how did they shape your journey?

In my few years as an artist, Moira Dela Torre has consistently been one of my top female inspirations. Alongside her, other artists who have profoundly influenced my journey include The Carpenters, Yeng Constantino, and I must admit, I absolutely love Hannah Montana. Recently, I have also drawn inspiration from Niki, Sabrina Carpenter, and Imago.

Q. How has being a woman influenced your approach to songwriting and music creation?

We still face criticisms that "women are not good enough" in all aspects. That statement motivates me to create better music. Being a woman means breaking boundaries in art, life, and everything.

Q. Do you think the perspective of women in music brings something unique to the art form? If so, what do you believe that is?

I am incredibly confident that women in music contribute significantly to the art form. First, our thinking and visualization are distinct; women are straightforward about what we want. Our perseverance and passion are undeniable. We are like open books—when we experience pain, we want to express it. Similarly, when we feel joy or any emotion, we want to show it, and this is often reflected in our music.

Q: Are there any new or existing goals or dreams you would want to pursue?

As an artist, I believe that the majority of us aspire to have a big, sold-out solo concert and to take our music worldwide. This has been my biggest dream since I was young. Currently, I have some new goals: I want to collaborate with both emerging and iconic artists who bring a unique perspective to my music. Additionally, I aim to produce my own songs as well as songs for other artists. My objective is to enhance my music in all aspects, whether it involves writing or producing.

I recently came across firsthomeplans.com while researching design-build solutions, and I must say the approach they take is impressive. The fact that design and construction are integrated under one roof makes the whole process seamless for clients. Their experience across residential, commercial, and institutional projects really highlights their versatility. It’s rare to see firms that emphasize sustainability while still maintaining high-quality craftsmanship. If you’re considering a project, First Home Plans seems like a reliable partner worth checking out.
