In the bustling, ever-evolving world of fashion, there are few voices as bold and unapologetically authentic as that of Andre Plaus. A designer based in Cavite, Philippines, Andre has crafted a unique niche within the fashion industry, particularly through his exploration of knitwear. The designs are not merely garments—they are personal expressions, each piece a reflection of the journey toward self-discovery and creative freedom.

A Journey of Self-Discovery and Liberation

Andre Plaus' story begins like many others: with a desire to “fit in,” a common feeling that so many of us, especially within the LGBTQ+ community, experience. Growing up, the pressure to be “socially acceptable” often led to moments of creative burnout and a deep sense of confusion about identity. Yet, through struggles and self-doubt, Andre has emerged stronger, now fully embracing both as a person and as a designer.

“Fashion for many of us, especially in the LGBTQ+ community, is a way of expressing ourselves. Each sparkles and bangles are representative of our identity,” Andre shares, reflecting on how fashion became an outlet for both personal expression and emotional liberation. The process of creating is deeply tied to the freedom from societal constraints. The phrase “I Am What I Am”, coined by the iconic Gloria Gaynor, resonates deeply with Andre’s journey—both personally and professionally.

The Art of Knitwear: A Blend of Nostalgia and Innovation

At the core of Andre’s brand is knitwear—a medium often overlooked for its potential in high fashion. But for Andre, knitting is a canvas, not a constraint. Fever Dreams Inc. blends 80s retrofuturism with nostalgic cartoon and TV show colors from the 90s and early 2000s, infusing pieces with bold, playful colors and quirky silhouettes that evoke the nostalgia of that era. Think Nickelodeon and Cartoon Network.

However, Andre’s designs go beyond simple nostalgia. The mission to show that knitted materials are not just for fitted, functional garments, but can be used to explore structure, texture, and form. Using a vintage domestic knitting machine, Andre is a self-taught operator, honing crafts through passion, patience, and experimentation. Each piece is painstakingly crafted by hand using domestic knitting machines, wool brushes, and an assortment of yarns. The result? A collection that blurs the lines between fashion and fine art. The Power of Playful Textures and Bold Colors.

Fever Dreams Inc. is an explosion of color and texture, designed to make a statement. Each piece carries a sense of joy and rebellion, reflecting Andre’s personal ethos of rejecting conformity. With knitwear that ranges from structured, sculptural shapes to more fluid and organic forms, the collection explores the

dynamic possibilities of yarn, weaving together a world of tactile sensation that

invites touch and interaction.

The colors themselves are vibrant and rich, 90s bubblegum pop tones from electric blues, neon pinks, and sunshine yellows. These colors not only evoke a sense of nostalgia but also challenge the conventional ideas of “acceptable” fashion. Andre’s creations are an ode to individuality, encouraging wearers to

embrace their true selves without fear of judgment or limitation.

A Future Full of Possibilities

Andre Plaus is a designer who is just beginning the journey, and it already speaks volumes. The commitment to individuality and innovation ensures that Andre Plaus' brand is a name to watch in the coming years. Whether through distinct use of knitwear or the powerful narrative of personal empowerment, Andre Plaus is proving that fashion is not just about what we wear—it’s about who we are. As Andre’s journey continues, one thing is clear: the future of fashion is limitless, and Andre Plaus is leading the charge.
