If P-pop was a race, they are just starting, but they already got their feet on the gas. The 6-piece P-pop girl group, consisting of Anne, Olive, Denise, Dein, Laiza, and Elle, is unstoppable and fearless, ready to conquer the track like queens. Debuting this year under Tyronne Escalante Artist Management, Calista (short for Call it Star) is ready to get on this crazy trip in the fast lane. Their first debut single, ‘Race Car’, was performed first during International Women’s Day, which speaks a lot about their ambitions as a group and P-pop artists. We do not get to see female representation all the time in mainstream music, but this P-pop group will take on this mission. Embodying that female badass through their songs, they are also ready to show their talents through their performances. This does not only represent strong, courageous women but artists who can bring P-pop to the top.
With an overwhelming welcome from fans, their first few months in the industry were nothing but rewarding. “Nakaka-overwhelm yung comments ng fans. It feels like the hard work paid off.” What makes the ride more exciting was the fact that they get to meet other P-pop groups, watch them perform, and share the stage with them. With Tugatog making this a lot more possible for the group, they wish to personify the femme energy through their choreographies and songs on stage. As they finished their recent concert, they revealed how tedious the training is now. And spoiler alert! They’re preparing a better stage for their debut single and surprise performances for P-pop supporters.
Each performance for these girls is like a race. As rookies, they want to bring the Filipino culture to their craft as more P-pop groups enter the sprint. Stepping on the gas towards their goal: to make music and inspire, we quote from the interview, “Calista is here. Calista is coming.”
There’s no such thing as overdrive, just a track that is never-ending towards the top, and these stars are more than ready for the ride.
