#PARCINQBEAUTY: Shibari

Beauty is Pain

Kinbaku, the art which involves tying a person up in visually intricate patterns first appeared in the Edo Period (1600s to 1800s) in Japan. Shibari is the older term which means to bind or to tie. Briefly put, it is the technique of safe, sensual, and erotic bondage that has been raised as an art form.

Meanwhile, the use of artificial nails started in the Ming Dynasty in China. Even then it was used by noble women as a status symbol, indicating that they did not do manual labor.

Collaborating with Shibari Rigger Rope Mongrel and Kinang Nails John Friday we take inspiration from the past to explore beauty, eroticism, and sensuality in the present.
