The All-Star Game of Entrances: Our Top Memorable Red Carpet Looks at the 2021 Met Gala

This year's The Met Ball, popularly known as "MET GALA," was a smaller, more intimate affair than usual (about a third less than its usual size, The New York Times reports). Still, it didn't stop the A-listers in attendance from going all out for the night's "American Independence" theme.

"The party of the year" is a fundraising benefit for the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City. Part One, titled "In America: A Lexicon of Fashion," will open in the Anna Wintour Costume Center on September 18, 2021, while the second part will open on May 5, 2022, which will be called "In America: An Anthology Of Fashion," coinciding with the event's traditional calendar. The prestigious gathering includes stars, young creatives, and industry paragons.

And since we can't get enough of yesterday's MET GALA madness, here are some of the celebrities who proved that flag-waving, patriotic looks can really go beyond just stars and stripes, and whose presence spoke volumes, and those who also got us thinking WHUT?!

1. RIHANNA AND ASAP ROCKY

All Hail our Met Gala QUEEN! Rihanna is back serving looks with his beau, ASAP Rocky. Rihanna wore a Balenciaga overcoat designed by Demna Gvasalia, plus a matching hat, while ASAP Rocky rocks a custom-made outfit by ERL. The power couple owned the red carpet with their signature swag, #CoupleGoals indeed!

2. KIM KARDASHIAN

Here we go again with Kim and her unconventional looks! Ever the show-stopper wherever she goes, she has gone the extra mile this time wearing an all-black, Balenciaga haute-couture gown with matching mask and train. Pretty different from how we see her, as she completely covered her features and physique. This look keeps us guessing on what her message is, anonymity or hey, look at me!

3. BLACKPINK’S ROSE

Blackpink's Rosé finally had the taste of her very first MET GALA appearance. Rockin’ a Saint Laurent little black dress with a white bow embellishment, the K-pop star and YSL beauty ambassador stepped out on the red carpet alongside Saint Laurent creative director Anthony Vaccarello. She paired her dress with a choker and striking dangle earrings to complete her look. All I can say is, Rosé pulled this off with class and confidence!

4. CL

Another hallyu queen who slayed her first MET Gala appearance is CL! The former 2NE1 member wore a denim gown from Alexander Wang, and because we all know her as someone with a no-frills type of personality, she paired her dress with high-waisted white underwear and walked the red carpet with her signature swag vibe.

5. OLIVIA RODRIGO

We can't help but say PH represent!!! So proud to actually see Olivia Rodrigo rockin' a sheer Saint Laurent jumpsuit paired with dangling earrings. The look is very youthful, showing her features yet covering what needs to be covered. The breakout star is on her way to greater heights.

6. LI’L NAS X

The American Rapper pulled a Lady Gaga with not one, BUT THREE outfit changes at this year’s Met Gala! The look is indeed fit to royalty, he arrived wearing an oversized silk robe then ripped off his cape to show his gold body armor then shedding it out to reveal his metallic Versace bodysuit. CAN I JUST SAY, POWER?!

7. TROYE SIVAN

Singer-songwriter Troye Sivan continuously perfected breaking gender stereotypes, wearing a sleek, minimal cut-out black dress designed by Spanish brand Loewe. This makes him look so beautiful and a total scene-stealer on the red carpet!

8. BEN AFFLECK AND JENNIFER LOPEZ

Ageless Jennifer Lopez will forever be an icon, and it showed in her Met Gala look. She stunned everyone with a rustic black dress which revealed her perfect plunging-neckline, thigh-high slit created by Ralph Lauren paired with a cowboy hat. She then rocked her most-prized accessory on the red carpet, her boyfriend, Ben Affleck! The two also wore face masks while granting the paparazzi a sweet kiss from the reunited couple.

9. CARA DELEVIGNE

Our forever fave Cara Delevigne indeed, is someone who knows how to make a statement. The model and actress wore a white bullet-proof vest with the eye-catching phrase “Peg The Patriarchy” designed by Maria Grazia Chiuri of Dior. Delevigne clearly got Met Gala’s message this year and incorporated it on her look that screams gender equality and women empowerment! She is the moment and we're here for it. PERIODT.

10. SIMU LIU

Fresh from the success of Shang-Chi: Legend Of The 10 Rings, actor Simu Liu walks on the red carpet with confidence wearing a custom-made white suit by Fendi. It's his first MET Gala appearance as well, bringing his sense of humor that changed the usual MET Gala vibe. He even posted on Instagram, "I'm sorry to all the people whose dresses I stepped on. Please know that it was 100% on purpose." LOL!

11. SAWEETIE

WE ALL STAN A QUEEN WHO’S PROUD OF HER HERITAGE! Rapper Saweetie paid homage to her Pinoy roots through her custom-made red Christian Cowan gown! The details of the dress say it all, with the dress’ train in two panels: one in red, blue, yellow, and white which proudly showed her Filipino blood while colors black and red at the other side of the panel pay tribute to her Black American heritage. And with 10-million crystals embellished on her dress, we can’t help but stop and stare!

12. EVAN MOCK

Another celeb representing PH is Gossip Girl hunk Evan Mock! The Fil-Am stunner wore a white shirt-black shorts combo with a dark blazer and full-leather face mask, an ensemble made by Thom Browne. A lot were surprised with his choice of fashion, but some fans welcomed his bold choice. His oink hairstyle actually made a statement too!

13. KENDALL JENNER

Kendall Jenner conquering Met Gala EVERY YEAR is an understatement. She always slays the red carpet, and this year is no exception! She sashayed on the red carpet donned in a sheer, custom Givenchy dress that goes well with her glowing look. The gown featured sparkling crystals, sheer yet bedazzled capped sleeves, corseted waist, and accessorized with a large choker necklace — giving us an Audrey Hepburn vibe, yes? We definitely missed a lot to include on the list but one thing’s for sure, MET GALA 2021 is definitely an affair to remember!! Got your own top picks? Let us know in the comments!
